Your day, your menu

We offer a selection of three course picnic menus to choose from, or you can use these as a jumping off point to create your own, bespoke picnic menu that is quite simply everything you want it to be.

The choice of where to serve the feast is all yours, but whether you choose a rustic hilltop or a classic marquee, if you want the food to be a talking point on your special day, then please get in touch.

Fabulous food, direct to your door

This is fabulous food with the brilliant twist of a classic picnic experience – so your guests can dive in, share and enjoy.

Our picnics can be delivered anywhere in England for the morning of your wedding (please enquire for rest of UK), or we can personally deliver and help you distribute them from our refrigerated van on the date you specify, all ready for you to box up and distribute. We can even come along to offer full service, bars, canapes and BBQs as part of your booking. 

Perfectly packaged

Every Gourmet Picnic comes with biodegradable cutlery and crockery and is ready to be packed into our compostable retro boxes. We’ll even supply luggage tag labels to use as place names and personalized menus for the day.

 

REAL LIFE WEDDING: Richard and James

While planning the details of their civil ceremony, Richard Calver and James Batchelor started by making a list of all the things they disliked about other people's weddings - and agreed their own would be the complete opposite.

There would be no rambling speeches, no sitting inside on a beautiful day, no stuffy ceremony, and no dress code. Instead, there would be marquees, bales of hay and plenty to eat and drink.

When it came to the catering for the day, the couple didn't want to tell their guests where to sit or when to eat. Richard explains: "James suggested the idea of our guests having a picnic and it was something that stuck in my mind. We'd always enjoyed going on picnics and they fitted the requirements of what we wanted, so we thought: why not? 

Bespoke fayre

Their final menu took full advantage of the abundance of local Cornish produce starring Richard's beloved dressed crab with lime and mayo aioli, and Cornish strawberries with Cornish clotted cream.100 guests were also to be treated to spicy potted crab with Melba toast, Mediterranean vegetable antipasto, a selection of prosciutto, chorizo and honey glazed ham; new potato spinach and orange salad with mustard dressing, served with provencal olives, gourmet crisps and bread rolls.

Delivered with care

As the wedding reception was held in Staplehurst, Kent, the picnics had to be transported over 300 miles across the country. Wanting to make sure the food was delivered in pristine condition, Sam and her team travelled the night before the wedding in a refrigerated van to hand-deliver the fresh picnics themselves. 

"There are three main themes when people talk about our wedding day," says Richard. "They thought it was a brilliant day; they thought the picnics were a lovely idea and the quality of the food was absolutely astounding; and they can't believe how much free booze there was!"

Made to share

The fact that the picnics were made to be shared gave Richard and James the opportunity to play matchmaker and with the hope of potentially creating more wedding days.

"Sharing a picnic broke the ice and allowed our guests the chance to get know each other. They were just much more interesting than a sit down meal: more relaxed; less formal — people were able to go and have a dance and come back to their picnic later in the day — and so simple. We were so impressed with the Gourmet Picnics service. We feel so lucky.”
